Farmers and contractors after a heavy-duty flail mower have three new models to consider.

Yorkshire maker Keith Rennie Machinery (KRM) has introduced a trio that feature an increased mouth height at the front of the machine for thicker crops. Shredded material is now discharged behind the roller, rather than in front, helping free up space around the rotor.

Also new is an internal steel housed roller and rotor bearings, and drive to the rotor is through a central gearbox with internal safety clutch.

The 195mm rotor spins at 2,250rpm and is adorned with heavy-duty flails, each weighing 1.6kg and capable of smashing through woody material up to 75mm.

The rear-mounted Grifus model comes with a 400mm hydraulic offset and in 1.4- 2.7m widths, and will set you back £5,550.

The slightly fancier Icon unit starts from £7,430 and can be supplied with a double headstock for front and rear mounting. It has a 600mm offset and is available in 2.3-3m widths.

Finally, a fully offset rear-mounted Master Super model completes the trio, offering cutting widths from 1.6m to 2.5m. The offset is 1,780mm and means the flail deck sits outside the tractor’s footprint – it is price from £11,320.
