It’s a touchy subject. For men who don’t want to have kids, the surefire solution is to get snipped.
About 500,000 vasectomies are performed in the U.S. each year. While some men might cringe at this thought, there are many misconceptions about this relatively quick and straight-forward procedure.
Recently, actor and comedian Rob Schneider underwent a vasectomy at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. Performed by Dr. Basil Salaymeh, Schneider shared his experience on Instagram and gave it rave reviews:
“It went GREAT!! It’s pretty easy! And it’s much better and less complicated to have the hubby do this procedure.”
“My new best friend is this frozen bag of peas… getting to know each other very well.”
Quick facts about vasectomies:
- A vasectomy is an outpatient procedure that only takes about 10-20 minutes.
- Patients don’t go fully under – local anesthesia is used for the surgery.
- The first two to three days are critical for a successful recovery, and patients are advised to stay off their feet for 48-72 hours and to avoid all sexual activity and heavy lifting for two weeks.
- Routine follow-up appointments are scheduled for one to two weeks after the procedure to check the patient’s incision, which tends to be quite small and well-healed by then.
