Birth photography is unlike any other genre of photography due to its unpredictable, yet beautiful nature. For those who commit their time to this incredible industry and providing this gift to families, we mix the unpredictable with photography techniques such as composition, balance, and light. Birth photography storytelling is a balance of documenting not only the moment of birth, but the emotion as well as the atmosphere.

We just entered our tenth session of Essence of Birth since 2016, and we have helped hundreds of birth photographers use their passion, talent, and hearts to build ethical, successful, inclusive and highly-respected birth photography businesses.

Following certification, Birth Becomes You is committed to empowering birth photographers through community and continuing education. Our certified community of birth photographers gather virtually throughout the year for Zoom calls hosted by members of our Certified Community. This month our call centered around storytelling. The call was led by Birth Becomes You Certified Photographer Lindsey Ellis of Wild Ember Birth in Montana.

As learners, certified birth photographers developed the skill of storytelling under the guidance of Co-Founders Monet Nicole and Jennifer Mason, two of the world’s most well-known birth photographers, who are still actively photographing and attending births. From storytelling basics to the importance of developing your style of photography, Co-Founders Jennifer Mason and Monet Nicole, teach about the narrative arc of storytelling, the importance of details and building tension through the images you take in the Essence of Birth certification course.

From a single image to a complete album, every moment is connected to storytelling. As Lindsey described during the call, the story in an image can encompass “photographing what is not there as much as what is.”
