Lyrics:

Lay down your head and I’ll sing you a lullaby
Back to the years of loo-li lai-lay
And I’ll sing you to sleep and I’ll sing you tomorrow
Bless you with love for the road that you go

May you sail far to the far fields of fortune
With diamonds and pearls at your head and your feet
And may you need never to banish misfortune
May you find kindness in all that you meet

May there always be angels to watch over you
To guide you each step of the way
To guard you and keep you safe from all harm
Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay

May you bring love and may you bring happiness
Be loved in return to the end of your days
Now fall off to sleep, I’m not meaning to keep you
I’ll just sit for a while and sing loo-li, lai-lay

May there always be angels to watch over you
To guide you each step of the way
To guard you and keep you safe from all harm
Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay

Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay…

I don’t own anything.

  1. I used to sing this to my son (my then bonus son who I raised as my own full time) and as I’m sitting here singing it to his siblings/my children so many memories come flooding back to me. It’s one of their favorites since I’ve always been open about their older brother ❤

  2. This feels like something a father would sing to his children before saying farewell for the last time. Because a father can never truly see his children as anything but the babies he once cradled in his arms, he may prepare them for the world and it’s cruelties, but they are always welcome to his arms. So In his final moment he gives them this prayer, his final wish for them to prosper and grow, to love and be loved, and as he leaves for the gates, he leaves them with the knowledge he is at peace. His final goodbye, this lullaby.

  3. Me and my brother are currently babysitting twins for my aunt. I have a few songs they like and they help them sleep. One of them really likes this song. They're alittle sick right now. So I use it to help them sleep when they're tired.

  4. I always have played this song and sang it to my son since he was in my belly. To this day i still play it while he sleeps and for his baby brother who is still in my belly. If only they knew how fortunate and blessed i feel to be their mommy.❤️

  5. I’ve always loved this song but tonight it holds a special meaning to me. My beloved hamster passed away in my hands and I’ve been hysterical but this song has calmed me down and let me know he’s in a better place

    RIP Ayok

  6. I listen to this song mostly everyday ever since from last two years and now most of my time when I want to sing this music, I want to sing to my grandparents since they like me to hear me sing when I was little, but now I’m singing for them in heaven. I sang to them so they can hear me and my tears are coming out whatever I sing to them or by myself!😢❤

  7. I play this song for the loved ones I’ve lost and to the one most important to me, to those whom fought, to the endless song of life and especially to my friends I sincerely hope they are doing okay 😢😢 with their own family I thank thy ones that gave me life and thank thy ones whom have stuck by my side til now. This is for my family and friends of I hold dearly in my heart ❤❤
