Making a New Year’s Noisemaker is a fun craft for kids while they wait for the countdown to a new year.
Made from small paper plates, these noisemakers can be decorated with your choice of craft materials. The key to creating noise on a budget – a small quantity of dried beans. Alternatively, you could use a small quantity of little buttons or stones, like aquarium gravel, if you prefer not to use a food item in your noisemaker.
And while you are in the crafting mood, why not pair your noisemakers with our DIY New Year’s Crackers?!!
Make Your Own New Year’s Noisemaker
You will need:
- Two 10cm/4in paper plates per noisemaker
- One drinking straw or jumbo craft stick per noisemaker
- Paint pens or markers
- Curling ribbon
- Dried beans – any variety of small beans
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
How to Make Your Own New Year’s Noisemaker:
Decorate the back of two paper plates with the paint or marker pens in your choice of design, one for the front of the noisemaker and one for the back.
Use hot glue to glue the drinking straw or craft stick to the inside of the back paper plate as shown. If using a straw, flatten the portion that will be glued to the plate to make assembly easier – also be sure to attach the straw about halfway up into the plate for stability.
Place a small amount of dried beans onto the plate.
Run an even bead of hot glue all the way around the outside ring of the plate and carefully place the front plate on top. Press down gently until set.
Add curling ribbon where the plate and handle meet to finish the look.
You are now ready to make some noise for the new year!!!
