The newest Disney Pixar feature film, “Luca” will premiere Friday, June 18 on Disney+ for no extra fee to kick off summer!

This week, Pixar released a new featurette showcasing their latest feature film on YouTube (watch above). “Luca” is the studio’s latest coming-of-age animated film, starring the voices of Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Marco Barricelli, Jim Gaffigan and Maya Rudolph. The video contains interviews from Pixar’s creative team and the film’s cast including director Enrico Casarosa.

The featurette is a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of building the world of “Luca.” It also highlights the fictional town of Portorosso, which aims to capture the wonderful nostalgic look of summers in Italy, one of my favorite places to be.

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.

“Luca” features the voices of Jacob Tremblay as Luca Paguro, a bright and inventive 13-year-old sea monster with endless curiosity; Jack Dylan Grazer as Alberto Scorfano, a free-spirited teenage sea monster with unbridled enthusiasm for the human world; Emma Berman as Giulia, an outgoing and charming adventurer who befriends Luca and Alberto; Maya Rudolph as Luca’s mother Daniela, Marco Barricelli as Giulia’s father Massimo, and Jim Gaffigan as Luca’s father’s Lorenzo.

“Luca” is directed by Italian filmmaker Enrico Casarosa in his feature-length directorial debut, produced by Andrea Warren (Lava, Cars 3). Casarosa, who has worked on iconic animated films such as Cars, Ratatouille, Up, The Good Dinosaur, Coco, and Incredibles 2, has been with Pixar since 2006 as a storyboard artist and writer.

Disney + subscribers can see the feature length fim, “Luca” for free (no extra premiere fee) on June 18, 2021. New subscribers can sign up at disneyplus.com for a monthly fee of $7.99.

The final movie trailer came out in May 2021 and can be viewed below:
