You mentioned that you have been using the Depo shot for contraception, which is normally a very effective form of contraception, but you were called back to the clinic after your last injection, and they told you that you were pregnant. So congratulations and surprise! The chance of getting pregnant on the Depo shot is 0.7%, so less than 1%. So you’re just one of those lucky women who got pregnant while using it. Now of course, this leads you to think, “Could this have any affects on my baby?” Studies have shown that the Depo shot does not cause any congenital anomalies or have adverse effects on a growing fetus. My recommendation to you, because you’re pregnant, is to pick and call an OB provider of your choice, and make your first prenatal appointment. Do inform them that you were on the Depo shot when you got pregnant, and they’ll decide if anything else needs to be monitored more closely over the course of the pregnancy because of it, but again, studies have shown that things should be just fine. Good luck with everything, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.
