In recognition of May being Women’s Health Month, we’re hosting a new dialogue series centered on women’s health and women fitness professionals. Hosted by members of ACE’s team, these inspiring talks explore the challenges women face in the fitness industry, address the importance of representation and provide insightful tips for aspiring fitness professionals.
This series aims to continue ACE’s discourse around equity, diversity and inclusion by amplifying the voices of female fitness professionals. According to a 2018 article by MVP Sports Clubs, the vast majority of personal trainers, health coaches and group fitness instructors are women. The same article states that men outnumber women on most executive teams within the fitness industry, especially in CEO positions. This disparity between working fitness professionals and fitness industry executives who are women is just one of the challenges faced by women in the fitness industry.
Making an Impact by Taking Group Fitness Virtual
When most of us think of group fitness, we don’t think of doing it virtually. We think of large groups, lots of energy, and an instructor that keeps us moving even when we’re exhausted. Jenny Ford took the concept of group fitness and expanded her audience from classes in the studio to the entire world. Utilizing her YouTube channel, Jenny has been producing workouts that have amassed millions of views and gotten people moving across the globe.
Her philosophy for health and fitness participants is grounded on three principles: PROTECTION, PURPOSE, and PEACE. “Work out consistently and feel deep inside how incredibly powerful you are. Find solutions to our life stresses! I was diagnosed with ‘anxiety disorder’ and have struggled with this my whole life. Exercise keeps anxiety at bay and will help with whatever challenges we face. That’s the gift and miracle of exercise!”
ACE expert and Jenny’s longtime friends Shannon Fable caught up on our Facebook page and discussed Jenny’s roots, her philosophy on fitness, and the adversity she’s faced throughout her career.
