Insomnia Diagnosis and Treatment is more complex than many people expect. Insomnia, one of the sleep-wake cycle disorders, is essentially a problem with sleep quality or quantity over a period of time: trouble falling or staying asleep. An insomnia diagnosis is based on an individual’s self-report of sleep disturbance but determining the best treatment often requires understanding the underlying cause of the problem. This is especially true when additional medical or psychiatric problems accompany the sleep issue.
In this video, I will discuss insomnia diagnosis and treatment, review the question “what is insomnia,” and give an overview of the diagnostic criteria, various causes, biological markers, and current treatments.
