A dog is being praised as a hero after rescuing a boy trapped in the floodwaters of Tennessee.

The dog, Cooper, went missing during flash flooding that devastated parts of Tennessee, including the town of Waverly.

He was reported as “found” in a post in the Concerned Citizens of Humphreys County Facebook group.

According to the comments of that post, Cooper was pulled out of a creek by a rescue boat. Also pulled out of the creek with him was a boy with autism.

The boy was reportedly caught in the floodwaters and “hanging onto a pole” when Cooper came swimming down the creek and nudged the boy to hold on to him. The boy clung to the dog until the boaters spotted them, and credits him for saving his life.

Cooper was taken to the Waverly Animal Clinic while his owners were identified, and thanks to the Facebook post, it wasn’t long before his mom found him.

Caitlyn Rochelle commented on the post, “he’s ours!!! that’s our Cooper!!”

In an interview with Daily Mail, she said, “It made me cry. It was no surprise that he saw someone else in distress and went after him.”

She explained to Daily Mail that Cooper had been “swept away” during the flash flood. A tree had crashed through their roof and their home filled with water.

While their family “lost everything” in the flood, Rochelle is just thankful that Cooper not only survived but helped save someone in the process.
