Your pre k, kindergarten, and first-grade students will love practicing their sight words on these game boards. The spin and build mats are customizable for all your learning needs. There are ten spaces for you to fill in on each board. Those ten words will then auto-populate into the spinner. The activity includes two sets of spin and build mats; a black and white version and a color version.

Makes Teaching Easier!

This fun and engaging activity pack includes a chart that you fill with whatever topic you want your students to practice. The chart has ten spots to complete, and then it will automatically put those words into a spinner. The students will spin the spinner, and then they will feed the groundhog those letters or numbers. There are also lines at the bottom for the student to write the word too. So easy, no answer key needed!

All you need to do is fill in the ten spaces and print. You can slide them into wipe and write pockets or laminate for durability. This resource includes a black and white AND color option for more printing options.

How to Use the Spin and Build Mats

To begin, each child gets a mat. They will then use a paperclip and pencil to make a spinner. Once they spin, they build the word inside the groundhog’s mouth that the paperclip landed on. Then, they will write that word on the line.

For example, if the game board has sight words on it. The student will spin the spinner, and they land on the word “went.” They will then build the word in the mouth of the groundhog. Lastly, they will write the word went on the line. Then, erase and spin again.

Your students will be engaged and learning while using these groundhog spin, build, and write mats! You can cover so many concepts since the boards are editable. They would work great for math centers like counting activities, addition cards, number recognition, ten frames, and more.

Don’t just stop with math! They could be used to practice word families, CVC words, sight words, or make spelling word cards. I love all the possibilities!

So Versatile!

These mats are so versatile because they are an editable version to fit your classroom needs! Some students can work on letters, while others work on numbers, and higher students can work on sight words. These mats would make a great editable sight word game. You could add a recording sheet for higher students to write their answers on.

I love these mats for a fun activity to practice spelling words! Each student can be working on the words they struggle with the most.

Instead of using letter or number manipulatives to build the word, students could use play dough to make the word. Adding in a sensory option for another learning experience is always a great idea! Plus, they would be building their fine motor muscles.

These mats could even be filled with addition or subtraction sentences that the students must practice and then complete the answer! They could use math cubes to build a tower to match the number sentence or use flowers or mini leaf erasers to show the number sentence. They could even use magnet numbers to show the math sentence and answer.

Teachers could use these spin and build mats for literacy centers, math centers, word work stations, small group activities, sight word activities, morning tubs, early finishers, tutoring groups, a home learning task, and so much more!
